Kareena Kapoor On Saif’s Attack: “This Is Not The Digital World I Want”

Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has relived one of the scariest moments of her personal life and the emotional highs and lows that she and her family went through when her husband, actor Saif Ali Khan, was attacked in their Mumbai house. On the one hand, the incident was highly traumatizing, but on the other hand, she states that the aftereffects of hatred expressed online and through news media were more painful due to the cruel speculations, vile trolling, and insensitivity of the questions.
In today’s times, months after the terrible incident happened, Kareena has come out and spoken in support not only of the fact that she is feeling sad about what has happened to Saif but also of the fact that there was zero compassion on the part of a section of the media and the population who seem to be feeling apathetic towards Saif as it pertains to those who seem to be indifferent to the plight of Saif.

The Incident Which Shook Them Up At Home

The incident was quite shocking because it happened in January when a burglar successfully broke into the house of Saif and Kareena in Mumbai. Reports outline that the suspect on a robbery attempt broke in only to enter in the room of their youngest son, Jeh. Things got out of control when Saif fought with this man to defend his family.

During what ensued as a scuffle, Saif was stabbed, with his injuries being severe such that he was admitted to hospital, where he would undergo two surgeries. The case was so critical that he was allegedly rushed to the hospital via an auto-rickshaw accompanied by their elder son, Taimur, as fear enveloped the family.

When this news was still fresh and shocking to the family, a torrent of internet trolls and mad zoning in the media ensued-as an already devastating experience.

Kareena Speaks Up: What An Absolute Rubbish

During a moving interview with Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, Kareena could not restrain herself as she reminisced about the incident and how mean things became afterward.

In response to the gossip on her whereabouts at the time of the attack, Kareena replied, “It was nonsense. It does make me, though, I could not say angry, because that is a very black feeling, nor do I ever want to feel it, but really very sad. That is what humanity has come to?

She was alluding to the speculations and news alike on the internet, saying why she was not publicly seen following the commotion, and some even took it a step further to inquire about the extent of the attack on Saif.

That is what we are? Is this what people must be starved with? Do we now take a joy in the grief of other people as entertainment?” Repairing Exemplar digital discourse? Kareena asked, looking disappointed and disillusioned.

Kareena Kapoor’s Face: Existing with the Trauma

More than the circus that the incident has created, Kareena also spoke about how it has created a psychological impact on her and her family since it involved the room of their child, which is the most secure part of a house.

She even admitted that she is not over it yet. Some person was in the room of our child. I can still see that image… it is not so easy to forget. The weeks of my anxiety were very tense. I was not able to sleep. I would wake up several times at night just to see the boys were okay. I was running the so-called what-ifs over and over again in my head.”

She admitted that she found the first few months following the event to be most difficult, and though life is now somewhat back to normal, she still feels emotionally hurt and tense. We got somewhere, but I am not kidding; it changed us. I in particular,” she confessed.

Online Onslaught: Doubting when a Woman is not present

A gendered criticism was also an issue that Kareena had to handle. She cited how soon they shifted their gears and gave consideration not only to the safety of Saif but also to her lack of spoken words—as though the woman being present or absent before a camera originated the determining factor to the authenticity of personal tragedy.

I was home with my family, and I was trying to quiet down my children, trying to pull myself together. And as I was doing that, there were headlines and hashtags stating, Where is Kareena?

She wondered whether it is right to discuss the personal sorrow of the person, to turn it into the gossip of the masses. Why must there be such transparency? When (when did privacy become suspicious)?”

The Love, the Support, and the Learning

Nevertheless, Kareena also stated that she liked, even though there were some negative words about this event, was how well-wishers showed her authentic care and love.

We fell under contact with friends and fans that were respectful, who sent their prayers. We loved these voices as they revived us of the fact that empathy still exists,” she added.

Being questioned on her learnings in the process, Kareena replied by saying that there are two worlds out there, one that is screaming SI, SI, there is something to puncture, and the other, the quieter, easier one, which does not always make the hue and cry, but is there when it is needed.

Thoughts on the Final: A Wake-Up Call

The words expressed by Kareena are a reminder that there is a thin line between being curious and being brutally mean to others in society. As much as celebrities do not lead their lives in the dark, their real lives are not put there to entertain people. Her unedited, exposed testimonial of nature in handling trauma, societal gaze, and online bullying, in turn, becomes an awakening cry to both audiences and the media.

What Saif, Kareena, and their kids went through was not merely an issue of a security breach but an infringement of his/her peace, privacy, and safety in the most sacred space. Not to mention that this was turned into clickbait and treated as an opportunity to be cruel in memes; it all speaks volumes about us as a civilization.

However, when confronted with such darkness, Kareena has resorted to retaining empathy, truth, and strength.

In the following manner, her words were beautiful:
Consumption is not all that humanity is about. Hope we don’t forget until it too late.
