The concept of Lord Curzon Ki Haveli<\/strong> looks like an intriguing one on paper: the dark, mysterious dinner in an old English mansion<\/strong>, secrets that lie within a locked chest, and a crowd of people that you cannot quite trust.<\/span> It reads as an ingredient to a mystery that is exciting and on the edge of your seat.<\/span> However, the excitement dies out soon after the film progresses.<\/span> What might have been a bright and witty thriller turns out to be a pile of incongruent thoughts and poor performance.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

A Great Prospect that Collapses.<\/span><\/h2>

The film is set in an isolated home in the English countryside.<\/span> It begins with the meeting of two couples at the dinner table. Rohit<\/strong> (portrayed by Arjun Mathur)<\/strong> and his wife Sanya<\/strong> (Zoha Rahman)<\/strong> invite Ira<\/strong> (portrayed by Rasika Dugal)<\/strong> and Basu (portrayed by Paresh Pahuja)<\/strong> to have a good night out.<\/span> It all appears lovely and everything, but later, there is an unusual twist of the night when Rohit and Sanya invite a chest that is mysterious.<\/span><\/p>

It is the focus of curiosity and fear for everyone on this chest.<\/span> What\u2019s inside it? Why is it locked? This mystery is attempted to be the primary source of suspense in the film, but the tension never really comes through.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Whereas the content creates an impression of something unexpected to occur at first, the storyline starts to lose its course.<\/span> The conversations are tiresome, and rather than creating tension in the play, the characters continue to go round in circles discussing the same issues.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/article>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

It has one thing that makes you keep watching, and that is the cast.<\/span> Arjun Mathur<\/strong> does a good job playing the role of the enigmatic and volatile host.<\/span> His soothing threat is appropriate to the mood of the story.<\/span> Rasika Dugal is exceptional as ever.<\/span> She adds to the depth of Ira even when there is not much in the writing to add to it.<\/span><\/div>

Paresh Pahuja plays Basu fairly well and introduces some sense of humor and flavor to the otherwise stuffy arrangement.<\/span> Zoha Rahman is well-suited to her role but hampered by poor dialogue.<\/span><\/div>

The actors are trying their level best, but good acting cannot correct a poorly written script.<\/span> It is possible to feel their attempts to make the scenes interesting, but the screenplay does not suit their efforts.<\/span><\/div>

The Writing: Brimming with Ideas, Scarcely Impactful.<\/span><\/h2>

The greatest problem with Lord Curzon Ki Haveli is the writing.<\/span> The movie is attempting to be smart and profound, but it turns into a perplexing and tedious one.<\/span> The conversations resemble the lines of a play on the stage – too practised, too artificial.<\/span> The characters give long monologues on identity, privilege, and racism, but they never seem natural.<\/span><\/p>

At times, you feel that the movie has something to say on the side of immigrants, racism or cultural identity.<\/span> These issues are dealt with in a shallow manner.<\/span> They do not appear to be thought-provoking but pretentious.<\/span><\/p>

This mystery in the chest, which should create the suspense, is also lost.<\/span> The action is too slow, and when anything interesting comes, it is already too late due to having ceased to care.<\/span><\/div>

Lord Curzon Ki Haveli might have been a stinging thriller of a group of people in their respective lies.<\/span> It has missed an opportunity to explore how class, race, and relationships bend under pressure.<\/span> But none of that happens.<\/div>

The movie fails to strike a balance in its tone – it is never evident whether it is a psychological thriller, a dark comedy, or a social satire.<\/span> Consequently, it is not convincing that it is any of those things.<\/span><\/div>

However, there are some good moments.<\/span> The old mansion is suitable in generating tension.<\/span> Cinematography is also pleasing in a few ways, such as low-key lighting, rickety corridors, and long shots that help to experience the desolation of the house.<\/span> Yet these visual merits cannot compensate for poor narration.<\/span><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
